The soap opera, As the World Turns, first aired in America on CBS on April 2, 1956 for 30 minutes. Millions of viewers tuned in daily to find out what was going on with the soap opera. Even conversations at the dinner table would comment on the latest developments of the show.

The core family of the show was the Hughes family. Nancy Hughes, played by Helen Wagner, was the mother, Chris Hughes, played by Don MacLaughliln, was the father, with Bob Hughes, played by Don Hastings, as their son. As Bob grew up, he married Lisa Miller, played by Eileen Fulton and they had a son, named Tom.

For 54 years, people tuned in, Monday through Friday, to watch As the World Turns. Eileen Fulton became a well-known celebrity and would walk down the streets of Manhattan with people believing her character of Lisa. She once commented someone slapped her on the street for her behavior on the soap opera.

It was a sad day for As the World Turns fans when the last episode aired September 18, 2009. It was canceled due to poor ratings. Although it is no longer on the air, it has not been forgotten.
