On September 13th the ATWT team of actors, staff, family, friends and fans walked/ran in the annual Susan G Komen 5K, which raises money for breast cancer research. Although the race is a yearly tradition for cast and crew of As the World Turns, we were shocked to see how many people showed up to participate this year despite the scare of rain. Imagine, all 50 of us trudging through Central Park holding umbrellas with tens of thousands of other people there. It would be frightening to say the least.
When the balloons were released and the runners quickly passed, all of us who were walking filed in line. What I thought would take at least an hour and a half was over before I knew it. I guess I should thank my walking buddy Paolo Seganti for that.
After the walk everyone met up for brunch and I saw some people for the first time all morning.
"Shouldn't you have been one of the first people here? I thought you ran the race," I asked Trent Dawson who I know runs every year.
"Oh no it takes me a little longer because it has become a tradition of my own to run the race twice," he replied.
At first I thought he was joking because he showed up maybe ten minutes later then everyone else. When I realized that he was serious, I couldn't help but be envious of his stamina to run seven miles. Then again, I think stamina comes easily when you are running or walking for a great cause. It was a really fun day!
